How COD works end to end, and the three places sellers lose money on it.
The buyer picks cash on delivery at checkout. You confirm the order, book a courier with COD collection, the rider collects the cash, and the courier pays it into your bank after their cycle, less their COD fee. Between delivery and remittance the money sits with the courier, which is why a COD-heavy store needs tracking.
Three places, all fixable.
Confirm every COD order on WhatsApp or by call before dispatch, check the pincode is serviceable, and match each remittance to the orders it covers. On D2 Commerce OS COD remittance tracking is on Growth, and COD confirmation on WhatsApp plus reconciliation to the bank is on Brand.
Enable COD at checkout and ship through a courier that collects cash, such as those on Shiprocket. The courier remits the cash to your bank on its cycle. D2 Commerce OS includes COD and Shiprocket on every plan.
Usually a weekly or bi-weekly cycle after delivery, depending on the courier or aggregator. Track each remittance against its orders.
A per-parcel COD collection fee from the courier plus the cost of returned parcels. The COD cost calculator works it out for your order volume.
